A veteran craftsman of folk and roots rock, singer-songwriter-guitarist JT Palmer heads the Americana music project JT Palmer and the Open Road. Palmer and friends deliver catchy hooks, lyrics both refined and raw, and strong vocals, in songs that evoke his wide-ranging influences and the experiences of a well-traveled soul.

As the founder and bandleader of the collective music project JT Palmer and the Open Road, singer-songwriter-guitarist JT Palmer brings a distinctive vision to his work – where the path ahead can truly lead anywhere. A veteran songwriter and craftsman of acoustic folk and roots rock, he now fronts a roster of like-minded musicians, set apart by varying lineups and an adventurous love for all things “Americana.”

Raised in rural upstate New York on early rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, classic country, and the Great American Songbook, and inspired by a late -1960s journey to the West Coast, which first planted the creative seeds for Open Road, Palmer has always been transfixed by limitless potential. After a seven-year stint playing in rock and string bands and doing session work in San Francisco, he enjoyed a decades long career restoring California’s historic buildings, while remaining involved in music and the broader arts community. Launching Open Road in 2022 as a post-retirement third act, Palmer delivers catchy hooks, lyrics both refined and raw, and strong vocals in distinctive songs that evoke his wide-ranging influences and the thoughtful wisdom of a well-traveled soul.

Open Road’s album Skylark debuted at #3 on the National Folk Alliance chart and topped regional acoustic and folk radio playlists across the U.S. After touring California, the UK, Italy, and Ireland, a new section of Open Road lies ahead. Inspired collaborations have led to two upcoming albums of original songs, featuring classic Americana sounds and the unlimited potential of new horizons.
